At what age to start sports and other activities for your child?
My child is 3 years. So has the mom and baby me singing / art / Gymboree type class. At the age of 2 years, that child was in football that was way over his head (it seemed geared for children ages 3-4 years). Me would put it in different activities, but do not want to pressure him or grab him. So I'm a little curious. At what age did you start your kids in the following activities, if at all? Music Lessons Swimming lessons sports (tennis, golf, soccer, etc.) PeeWee / Little League (football, baseball, etc.) martial arts (karate, kung fu, etc) Anything else? I have a niece who is 5 years been in swimming and karate since age 3 and tennis from 4 years. So after 5 years, and kindergarten, which is in swimming, tennis and karate. And his mother wants to put her in piano lessons. To me, that looks a lot ... 3.4 extracurricular activities, in addition to school at 5 years? Is that because normal? I think your niece is involved in a bit much. Most parents in my care have a golden rule, one activity per season. Children can try things for 4 years and not be overwhelmed and give everything in every one. My daughter is going to start swimming this spring (2 years) and dance in the autumn / winter (2.5). Until she is a little older, that is all she will participate in.
