Cut a pattern of hair extension? too wide?

Would it be acceptable to reduce to any desired width? Should I seal the ends where cut? How do I do that? I'm sure you could put additional clips needed of existence with a glue gun ... Can anyone give me some idea? Thanks in advance! 
Thanks for your answer! I really do not need to know about glued on extensions ... (I just want to clip in .. more if I stick to when I wash my hair, the color would fade) But thanks for that first link, I left a message for one of the youtubers asking this quesiton.
